What is Medical Payments Coverage? Do You Need it?
What happens when you’re in an accident and you have medical injuries? Today we’re talking about medical payments and what sometimes is referred to simply as Med-Pay.
If you’re in a covered accident and you have medical injuries, you need what’s called Med-Pay on your policy to help cover your medical injuries. Remember, personal injury liability limits are not for you; they’re for the other people that you hurt, if you’re in a covered accident and it’s your fault. So if you have medical payments on your insurance plan and you’re in a covered accident, Med-Pay can help pay for all of your medical injuries, doctors’ visits, ambulance rides, emergency room, things to that nature.
This is a coverage that most people think they have on their insurance policy, but they actually don’t. A lot of people say, “I have health insurance, I’m okay.” But what about things like co-pays and deductibles on your health insurance? A lot of people like me have a very high deductible on their health insurance. So if you supplement that with the medical payments on your insurance policy, it can help so that the financial devastation is not so great.
So do yourself a favor. Check your policy, call your agent, make sure that you have medical payments. And when you do and you’re an accident and you have medical injuries, you won’t feel so bad. You can do a dance.
