What does a speeding ticket do to your insurance and what can you do about it?
Well, the first thing you can do about it is just don’t speed! Very simple. Very easy. Then you don’t have to worry about it. But if you’re going to speed, you have three options. Really two, but let’s say three right now.
The first option is you can just pay the ticket and be done with it.
The second option is you can go to driving school.
And the third option, which I say is not really an option, is you can fight the speeding ticket. I say it’s not an option because in all my years of insurance and all the clients I’ve had that have tried to fight a speeding ticket, exactly zero people have actually successfully fought a speeding ticket.
Let’s talk about the two viable options.
First option, like I said, is just pay the speeding ticket. The problem with that is once you pay it, it’s going to show up on your driving record, which in turn is going to raise your insurance rates. And it’s going to raise your insurance rates for five years. For five years your rates are going to be higher because of that speeding ticket.
The second option is actually the best option and that’s to go to driving school. Now when you get the ticket, most of the time on the ticket itself, it’s going to have the information about all of the different driving schools you can take. If they’re not listed there, there’s going to be a phone number and you can call that phone number and they’ll give you the information. The reason I recommend going to driving school is because when you take the time, go to driving school, and you can do it online, probably takes a couple hours, but when you do that, the ticket magically disappears. It’s gone. It’s not going to show up on your record. Therefore it’s not going to affect your insurance premiums for five years. So that is the best option. The easiest option. Go to driving school. Get it taken care of. And you won’t have to worry about it.
Now, I believe you can only do that twice a year. So don’t get more than two speeding tickets over the course of a year or else you are just going to have to pay it and it is going to show up on your record.
Those are my tips for you today. But remember, the best tip, just don’t speed.
