Do you have an awesome car that you just love to cruise down the road, like you’re really cool with the bass just thumping really loud waking everybody up at night?
What’s Covered Under My Car Insurance?
I’ve never been that cool so I’ve never had this problem. But if you’re one of those people and you have a really nice stereo system in your car, if you came down here to best buy and bought a system worth thousands of dollars, you might have a problem.
Here’s the problem
You never told your insurance company that you have that installed in your car. And so when you leave your car parked outside of your garage at night and you forget to lock it and someone breaks in your car and steals the stereo system, you get really, really upset when your insurance company doesn’t pay you for it. So here’s the deal, most insurance companies are not going to pay for a custom stereo or any type of equipment, TVs, anything like that in your car unless it is permanently installed and it was installed from the dealer.
If it’s in the aftermarket stuff, you’re most likely not going to get paid anything from the insurance company if you have a claim. Some companies will pay up to $500 but that’s not going to get you anywhere. So here’s my advice to you today. If you have nice stereos, nice TVs, anything like that after market that’s put into your vehicle, contact your insurance company.
Let Your Car Insurance Company Know!
Let them know they can add on endorsements to your policy so that in the event that something does happen and it gets stolen, you can have coverage. But if you don’t let them know you’re just going to be out of luck. And then you’re going to be really upset when you can’t cruise down the road on a Friday night and look really, really cool.
