Is my personal property covered if it’s stolen from my car?
This is a question that is very common and it’s something that is very much misunderstood. People wrongly assume that their car insurance covers their personal property if it’s stolen from their car.
If you leave your windows rolled down or someone breaks into my car and they steals all your stuff in the car, does your car insurance cover that? Do you have coverage for that? The answer is no. That would not be something that is covered under your car insurance. There’s no coverage for it on your car insurance policy. In most cases, if someone steals stuff out of your car, your personal belongings, that would be covered under the personal property coverage on either your renter’s insurance or your homeowners insurance. But it would not be covered under your car insurance. If you’re someone that just rents and you don’t see a need to buy renter’s insurance, well there’s a reason right there. You need renter’s insurance, so if there’s something stolen out of your car, it’s going to be covered.
Anyways, that is a very quick answer today. Question and answer. If something is stolen out of your car because someone throws up in it and you leave the windows rolled down, it is not covered under your car insurance.
